I agree wholeheartedly with Liz Kirkwood, executive director of FLOW for Water, who said: “Nothing short of ending the flow of oil through the Straits will protect the Great Lakes from a catastrophic spill. It’s remarkable given Enbridge’s pattern and practice of lying to the state about Line 5’s condition that the governor is now trusting Enbridge to abide by a new agreement. This puts the future of the Great Lakes in the hands of Enbridge.”
The Michigan Constitution and environmental state statutes dictate how we are to protect and care for our natural resources and the Great Lakes, and as Attorney General, I will uphold and defend each and every one. Trusting Enbridge to put corporate profits ahead of our health and our water is foolish. We are no safer under this agreement than we were without it. The only thing that will stop a devastating spill is shutting down Line 5, which I will do on day one as Michigan Attorney General.
